It seemed more interesting and was easier to read (although it has been a while since I read Midwife's Apprentice).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-14777938053579353262010-11-04T00:11:48.880-04:002010-11-04T00:11:48.880-04:00I liked the book but am not terribly enthusiastic....I liked the book but am not terribly enthusiastic. I appreciate the interesting slant on historical fiction but I have to say, I tired of the same curse used repeatedly, "Ye toads and vipers."tessyohnkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15370747722325249953noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-80730506145505794742010-09-20T17:04:09.167-04:002010-09-20T17:04:09.167-04:00Another excellent job by Karen Cushman! I thought that I was sitting down to read excellent historical fiction -- and I did -- but I was also impressed with her spot-on description of the pain and fearfulness of persevering with disability AND the trial of dealing with a work-obsessed, neglectful parent. Maybe our culture HAS made some advancement since the early 1600's! Newbery could possibly shine from this cover next January. And if not, I can see lots of uses for this book in classroom discussion and I wouldn't hesitate to hand it to any child or grownup.Beckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00563267791240620084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-87298486670559940292010-09-13T21:43:44.049-04:002010-09-13T21:43:44.049-04:00Sorry, but I didn't care for this book. The book got better as it went along, but if I was a kid reading it, I would have disliked her from the start and put the book down.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04452465706804946870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-62780084550637782562010-07-27T10:04:11.855-04:002010-07-27T10:04:11.855-04:00http://richiespicks.pbworks.com/ALCHEMY-AND-MEGGY-...http://richiespicks.pbworks.com/ALCHEMY-AND-MEGGY-SWANNRichie Partingtonhttp://richiespicks.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-68188211543433809752010-07-07T19:54:32.789-04:002010-07-07T19:54:32.789-04:00I really liked the book.

Still it gives authenticity to the story.Desettihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03265296759245584788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-47656946041455616092010-07-01T10:21:31.297-04:002010-07-01T10:21:31.297-04:00I love this era and thought this book portrayed it...I love this era and thought this book portrayed it well. I enjoyed the story also. However, I think the language may prove too difficult for the age group and only the most dedicated readers or those who really love this time period are going to struggle through it.Jewelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3690804960293453326.post-44812370017270627602010-06-20T15:42:42.120-04:002010-06-20T15:42:42.120-04:00This book is absolutely Newberry-worthy. I loved getting to know Meggy and her story, I laughed at her insults and her sharp wit and her stubbornness, and my heart went out to her as she learned to make her way in her new situation. Well done.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
