I just brought this one home from the library today! I am in the middle of "Rivers of Fire" by Patrick Carman. ("It was the middle of the night when Edgar entered the fig grove alone...") I moved this one to the front of the line just on the strengh of the cover and the title! Looking forward to your next list...

Wow! This book was nothing like I expected! It had some weak points and some holes in the plot lines, but it is also incredibly thought-provoking and would be a great book for discussion. At what point should we question authority and stand up for what we believe & know in our hearts to be right?

I liked the last third of the book. It was just too slow for me in the beginning. I liked that it seemed to be saying to the reader, you need to accept yourself and others the way they are and that you have no right to try to make people what you want them to be. I thought the characters were well developed. The reader knew where the different children were coming from when it was time to do something about their situation. I think the book would be a good one for discussion but I don't have it on my list of possible winner.

I haven't been able to suspend disbelief enough with this title to get very far. And since it isn't on one of the final discussion list, I'm returning it to the library.

I was all set to really get into this book, but I couldn't make it past the way the dialogue was written. I have a hard time with dialect and I think that this one would be a much better choice for listening, rather than reading (at least for me). The story's set-up was certainly interesting, but it didn't hook me enough to motivate me to look past the dialect...
