I couldn't decide between being bothered that someone like RD could slip through the cracks and not really believing he could go on that way for so long at all. Either way, it's a wrenching tale about young people making huge decisions-- some of the same biggies they've always had plus some newer, sadder ones too.

I, too, was bothered by these things, but having had students in difficult situations, or teetering on the edge of them, I think this will have a lot of appeal.
