Ludelphia's character is so well developed in this story. I felt like all the emotions and the reactions by all the characters were authentic. My library has this shelved in our children's section and I think it may do better in teen. Right away Ludelphia has to deliver her mama's baby girl, and her mama takes a turn for the worse. It is up to Ludelphia to do what she can to save her. Excellent book, but I'm not sure how many kids would pick it up.
