I liked this novel a lot more than I thought I would. I do admit that I skimmed through (or skipped) the bridge instructions. Story was very compelling. However, I don't see it as a Newbery contender.

I really loved this book. It really surprised me though. It was a lot of fun to read (I listened to it and did listen to all of the bridge instructions). It was a great story woven in some instruction in the game of bridge. It takes talent to do that!
