I've read Three Rivers Rising multiple times and it gives me chills every time. It is epic like watching Titanic, you know there is going to be a flood, but you suspend disbelief and how the outcome will somehow be different
I was very interested in this topic, appreciated the fact that a time line is included in the back of the book and very much enjoyed the novel-in-verse aspect. It is a lovely read.
I don't think, however, that the book falls into the age category of the Newbery. It reads very beautifully and simply, but it's a love story and one of the story lines includes a premarital pregnancy.
I know I sound like a prude, which I am not -- it just seems like the reading level is one age and the content is another.
